After holding a variety of studio management positions at Bearsville in the 1990s, Patty Merklin returns to Bearsville Studios at Turtle Creek, the near-legendary, 35-year-old facility located just outside of Woodstock, N.Y., as their new general manager.

Merklin’s responsibilities will include booking, marketing, customer service and administration. She had been with the studio for more than ten years when, in 2001, she left to pursue personal interests.

Bearsville’s roots date back to 1970 when artist manger Albert Grossman (Bob Dylan, The Band, Paul Butterfield, Janis Joplin) sought to establish a recording complex that would offer artists all of the technology and amenities of big city facilities coupled with the bucolic ambience of upstate New York. After his death in 1986, it fell to Sally Grossman, his widow, to keep the studio operation going.

In recent years, the business was restructured and recast as Bearsville Studios at Turtle Creek, that being the complex’ signature facility, a barn that offers on-site residence, a infinite variety of configurations and a setting that is unparallel in North America. The studio has been used in recent times by a range of contemporary artists Brian Setzer, Saliva and The Vines, among others. Equipment includes an API Legacy console with Flying Faders, Pro Tools HD version 6.7 and a wealth of vintage analog gear.

Owner Sally Grossman commented, “Our restructuring efforts coupled with the appointment of Patty Merklin as our GM should serve notice that Bearsville is alive and well and ready to work with producers, engineers, artists, managers and labels to provide the kind of service and atmosphere that have made the studio synonymous with excellence for so long.”
