Professional Audio Design (PAD) announced the formation of Resolution Audio Electronics during a press conference at last week’s AES Convention. Resolution Audio Electronics is a manufacturing company specializing in newly manufactured products that capture the sound of classic analog, discreet, Class-A designs, while adding modern capabilities for each unit.

“One of the main business stays at PAD is in the field of console refurbishing,” says PAD president Dave Malekpour. “Over the years, our customers have asked us for a lot of capability changes, and as a result of that process, our engineering staff has developed a lot of specialized audio circuits. For instance, we have customized vintage Neve consoles, adding our own custom electronics to enhance performance to our client’s specifications. One of our clients wanted to have his preamps remoted so they could be right next to the drum set for tracking with remote controllability from his ProTools system and I thought to myself, ‘Hey we can do that’, which inspired our first product.”

That first product, the ResoPre-873, made its debut at AES and will be distributed through Audio Exchange International (AXI). The technology is based on the analog, discreet, Class-A mic pre-amp circuit and transformers that defined the classic sound of the 70s and 80s.

According to Brandon McHale, senior design technician for PAD, the ResoPre-873 is a two rack space unit that has 8 channels of in and out with an optional digital output card.

Resolution Audio Electronics is also developing the new DiPre-73 to be offered in one and two channel packages. The single channel is a stand-alone, desktop-type module built in a metal module chassis, utilizing vintage parts from the ten or plus years working on original Neve consoles.
