Roland Juno-D

Roland is now shipping Fantom-Xa, a sampling workstation from the company’s Fantom-X series, and the Juno-D synthesizer.

The Fantom-Xa offers 128-voice polyphony, major memory expansion, high-resolution built-in sequencing, real-time audio time-stretching, COSM® modeling effects, mastering processor, Skip Back Sampling, USB port, .WAV/.AIF compatibility, and an SRX expansion slot. The onboard PC Card slot allows up to a gigabyte (!) of patch and sample data storage.

The Fantom-Xa includes up to eight syncable LFOs per patch, including the Step LFO. The 1,000-plus internal patches are categorized by family (Electric Guitars, Soft Pads, Organs, etc.) allowing users to find sounds quickly.

The Juno-D features 640 sounds and 20 rhythm sets. Sounds can be layered and split across the keyboard for performance and sequencing applications. In addition, a Mac/PC editor is included for free.

Other features include a phrase/arpeggio generator and Multi Chord memory function. Users can assign all 12 notes in an octave to play different chords, and then save them as a set. A Rhythm Guide metronome with real drum sounds is also built in; preset patterns and variations are provided.

The 61-note, velocity-sensitive keyboard includes a D Beam controller, pitch/modulation lever, and five front-panel control knobs.
