TC Electronic's new Digital Konnekt x32 ($1,745) is a digital patchbay, format converter and FireWire audio interface for integrating digital outboard effects units and keyboards with modern DAW-based studios.
As a stand-alone format converter and patchbay, Digital Konnekt x32 includes eight channels of AES/EBU, eight channels of S/PDIF and TOS, eight channels of ADAT (up to 96kHz SMUX) and word clock I/O. Any input format can be converted into either of the other formats and aligned to any sample rate ranging from 44.1 to 192 kHz. Digital Konnekt x32 allows sample rate conversion on up to four separate stereo inputs at once.
Konnekt Digital x32 functions as a computer interface with two FireWire connections streaming 16 channels of audio to and from the computer. The audio interface has a ¼-inch balanced stereo analog output and headphones for monitoring, and is compatible with other TC Electronic audio interfaces.
Accessed like a standard VST/Audio Units plug-in from within a DAW, the included Integrator plug-in enables hardware processor effects to be used as an insert or an effect send on any track or on the host application's master output. Integrator also controls routing, levels and latency compensation of external effects processing equipment attached to Digital Konnekt x32, allowing integration of hardware effects processors.
Extra features on the digital patchbay and interface include complete front panel patchbay configuration, total scene recall, JET Jitter Elimination Technology and a front panel lock to prevent unintended button pushes.
In addition, TC-Helicon announces the VoiceWorksPlus ($995) rackmount voice processor. VoiceWorksPlus features a complete suite of vocal processing ranging from EQ, intelligent harmony, voice modeling and TC-engineered studio effects to megaphone and distortion effects. The fourth generation intelligent harmony processing is said to offer more flexible and natural MIDI control, as well as new humanization technology. Video examples of presets can be found online at www.tc-helicon.com/voiceworksplus/.
