The Duderstadt Center on the north campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor offers an electronic music studio, a digital media tools lab, a virtual reality cave, multimedia collaboration rooms and a recently overhauled, state-of-the-art recording studio. At the heart of the Walters-Storyk Design Group renovation lies a new API Vision console that allows its users to intelligently mix in both stereo and surround formats simultaneously. The API Vision is available to any University of Michigan student provided the student receives certification on its use....

NSCA Expo 2007 raised a serious question for audio pros: Are the days of copper connectivity waning? One look around the floor of the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. and you might think so. Fiber-optic connectivity was everywhere on the show floor, from the well-established ADAT Lightpipe (appearing almost everywhere these days) to optical stage snakes to fiber interfaces for DiGiCo and Yamaha digital consoles. Light is a great way to move audio: It’s fast, reliable and lightweight, with a lot of channels within a relatively thin pipe—and there are no ground loops! AED Rent Belgium Hosts First Innovason Academy

Following its purchase in January of six Innovason digital consoles from its Belgian distributor, A. Prévost, AED Rent Belgium, one of Europe's largest dry-hire rental support companies, hosted its first Innovason Academy at its headquarters in Willebroek, Belgium. Innovason product specialist Matthieu Le Failler, with support from market development manager Philippe Pelmelle, conducted the training session using three consoles that AED Rent had made available. The session offered an overview of the consoles followed by hands-on training....

Chris Shepard Installs TRUE Systems Mic Pre's in Remote Truck

Chris Shepard, chief engineer for the Chicago-based CMIX Mobile Recording Studio, recently added two 8-channel TRUE Systems Precision 8 preamps to the truck's existing rack, expanding his Pro Tools HD and RADAR redundant backup systems and increasing his track count to 64 channels. Shepard placed the Precision 8 preamps at the front of his signal chain after comparing and contrasting 10 different preamps that reside in top studios.
