Sound for USC Village Gala

Gear Connection provides equipment rental and production services to corporate, institutional and entertainment clients. The company’s recent partners have included the Anatolian Festival at the Orange County Fairgrounds, the Luckman Fine Arts Complex and the University of Southern California.

Arik Perelman, who manages GC’s Production Services division, is a USC alum and last fall, GC provided sound reinforcement, recording and a range of other production services for the university’s gala to celebrate the opening of its $700 million USC Village development. Attended by about 1,000 guests, the event featured performances by the Trojan Marching Band and student performers from the USC School of Dramatic Arts, the USC Kaufman School of Dance and the USC Thornton School of Music.

Gear Connection provided a main P.A. comprising 12 d&B V8 loudspeakers, four J subwoofers and 18 JBL VT4886s. With a 40-piece symphony performing, plus a 60-person choir, 80 actors and dancers and more, inputs totaled 168 and GC provided DiGiCo SD10 and SD5 consoles for FOH, along with an SD5 monitor board. Perelman served as production manager for the event, while Toby Tittle and Philip Allen mixed FOH, Mario Rodriguez mixed monitors, and Benjamin Maas was the recording engineer. GC’s Chris Guthrie was the lead systems tech.
