H.A.S. Productions Demonstrates VUE’s al-System in an Arena Setting

Veteran front-of-house engineer Rick Camp (Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Chris Brown) landed on January 16 in Las Vegas’ Buffalo Bills  Star of the Desert Arena to receive a one-on-one demo from local sound company H.A.S. Productions. A sizable VUE Audiotechnik system was hung for Patti LaBelle’s performance.

Prior to LaBelle’s performance, Camp took the time to thoroughly test drive the system using an Avid Profile console provided by H.A.S. and his own Pro Tools rig, which includes tracks from J-Lo’s 2012 world tour.

The system featured a full arena stereo hang with 24 al-8s per side as the mains and eight al-4s per side as sidefills. Fourteen hs-28 Subwoofers were lined on the ground along the edge of the stage for low-end extension.

With so many boxes in the air, Camp proceed to cut some low frequency energy in the hanging system, -8 dB at 80 kHz to perfect a balance of low, midrange and high frequencies. VUE states the high frequency energy in the VUE al-Class systems “produces a warm and crystal clear vocal thanks to the company’s use of Beryllium diaphragms in their high frequency drivers.” The complementary midrange and low frequencies are delivered using world class Neo-Kevlar transducers.

The system is powered by VUE’s proprietary V6 Systems engines, which have onboard DSP and networking allowing full control of the flown system on the ground. These engines are said to allow full smooth transition between the al-8 mains system to the al-4 side fills, with no coloration.

“VUE’s al-8’s are an outstanding new concert speaker system that will revolutionize the industry sound as we know it,” Camp says.

In 2013 Camp launched Master Mix Live in Las Vegas, which provides instruction in live sound. It offers a five-month course in which students learn in both classroom and real-world settings through internships with local casinos and sound companies for 15 hours per week.
