Rain Computers in Ringwood, N.J., announces the Stratus audio computer (starting under $800), which the company designed with personal studios in mind. Like all Rain audio computers, Stratus offers a platform for industry-standard music production software like Pro Tools, Cubase and SONAR.

The company has also tested Stratus with audio hardware such as Avid's Mbox USB interface with the intent of achieving optimum power and stability without glitches and dropouts.

Stratus is available now through Best Buy with either a quad-core or 6-core processor. Users can also create a custom configuration for Stratus through the Rain Custom Shop, including a choice of processor, memory, hard drives and more.

Stratus includes a free 30-day trial of RainCare Encompass Creative Computer Support tech support system.
