Shure Beta 27

Shure Incorporated in Niles, Ill., announces the side-address, supercardioid Beta 27 ($499 MSRP) condenser microphone. The Beta 27 is said to be the only such microphone designed for professional sound reinforcement. Shure developed the Beta 27 in response to audio engineers' desire for a condenser mic that offers better isolation of the sound source.

The Beta 27's supercardioid polar pattern targets the sound source for fine detail in demanding acoustic environments. With its large diaphragm and extremely low self-noise, the Beta 27 promises sound quality and high-caliber performance.

The Beta 27 is crafted for superior focus of sound reproduction and high gain-before-feedback. Designed for professional sound engineers and performers, Beta 27 is said to redefine control for essential, expert sound reinforcement in a wide variety of demanding applications and changing environments.

Shure states that the Beta 27 is tailored for superior transient response from a low mass, 1-inch externally biased, ultra-thin 24-Karat gold-layered Mylar diaphragm. The company says that Beta 27 offers flat, neutral frequency response for natural reproduction on stage or in the studio. A three-position switchable low-frequency filter helps reduce unwanted stage rumble or counteract proximity effect for consistent, extended low-end. A -15dB switchable attenuator is said to handle extremely high SPLs with ease.

The Beta 27 offers premium electronic components and gold-plated internal and external connectors. An internal pop filter with three separate mesh layers is designed to reduce wind and breath noise.
