Producer, engineer and UCLA Extension instructor Pablo Munguia has been nominated for two Emmy Awards from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. In recognition of his nominations, UCLA Extension's Entertainment Studies and Performing Arts Department is offering five free enrollments in his upcoming course, Introduction to Independent Music Production.
Munguia's Emmy nominations are in the category of Outstanding Sound Mixing for two productions—the 81st Annual Academy Awards program on ABC and the halftime show with Bruce Springsteen on NBC's broadcast of Super Bowl XLIII. A veteran of the music industry, Munguia has worked with some of the top names in popular music, including Britney Spears, Barbara Streisand, Alicia Keyes and the Backstreet Boys.
A native of Mexico City, Munguia spends time in Los Angeles to work on a wide variety of music production and engineering projects, and to teach the three-meeting Introduction to Independent Music Production class for UCLA Extension. His next class convenes August 22, 29 and 30 on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles' Westwood neighborhood.
To apply for one of the five free enrollments, contestants must explain why they are interested in independent music production in 500 words or less and e-mail their entries to entertainmentstudies@uclaextension.edu. The Entertainment Studies and Performing Arts Department will contact winners.
Introduction to Independent Music Production is designed for songwriters, musicians and composers at all levels who want to record and produce music in their own home studios. In the three daylong class sessions, Munguia shares his insights into audio fundamentals, songwriting and production. He also delves into business issues facing independent producers. The course enrollment fee is $245.
Participants have the opportunity to present their demos for critique and feedback on the last day of the class. This introduction is the first class in UCLA Extension's Certificate Program in Independent Music Production. More information about Munguia and the Certificate Program in Independent Music Production is available at uclaextension.edu/entertainmentstudies.
