FOH effects racks; pictured here, from the top down: TC Electronic TC2290 Dynamic Digital Delay + Effects Control Processor; DeltaLab Effectron ADM 256; Jensen Twin Servo 990 mic preamp; Maselec MPL-2 Peak & High Frequency Limiter; Lake Contour Clair iO; Empirical Labs Distessor; JDK Audio 8MX2 rack-mount preamp/mixer; API 3124 preamp; Chandler Limited LTD2 (x4); and Universal Audio 2-1176 1176LN Limiting Amplifier. “Outboard equipment definitely ties in to the microphone selection and console channel restrictions,” FOH engineer Kevin Lemoine says. “Even though the Midas mic preamps are awesome, there are of course many others out there that are nice to hear, and the variety of those along with mic selection definitely makes for an interesting final mix. For instance, Billie's vocal is miked with a Telefunken M80 wireless on a Shure transmitter. Then it goes into a John Hardy 990 preamp, then sees a Maselec MPL-2, a Lake EQ and then a Distressor before hitting the Midas. The backing vocals all sing through Telefunken M 80 microphones. They all have API 3124 preamps on them as well as the phenomenal Chandler Limited LTD-2 limiters.”
