Heading North Goes to '6'

Sep 1, 2011, By Sarah Benzuly

Mastering engineer Ron Skinner’s Heading North Mastering (Toronto) now boasts the SADiE 6 software platform. “The most important change is the ability to switch from SADiE hardware to native hardware and back again,” says Skinner. “This is especially helpful when clients bring in their own I/O. SADiE 6 also gives me the ability to record on any CD burner; not being tied to my Plextor has been great and gives me more options. Clients are astounded at how quickly and accurately I can make an edit. ...

Recorded at Echo Mountain Studios (Asheville, N.C.) and Sonic Ranch (El Paso, Texas), the album was digitally mastered at 96k/24-bit for vinyl by Dave Collins at Dave Collins Mastering and at 44.1k/16-bit for CD and online release. “We came to Bernie to cut the best lacquer we can for manufacturing,” says Hewitt. “The person who buys vinyl wants to hear the maximum fidelity.” ...

Cloud Computing | Mastering

May 1, 2011, By Barbara Schultz

Why play for an hour when you can go for two—or three? Why fade out when there can be “One more time!”? So if Springsteen’s going to issue a box set, it’s not going to be an early LP wrapped up with a few bonus tracks and a taller booklet...
