Symbiotic Records recording artist Ignacio Val has just completed mastering on his debut self-titled album at Bernie Grundman Mastering. The album was produced by Scott Pounds and engineered by Fausto Juarez at Lamat Studios (Glendale, Calif.). Mastering engineer Joe Bozzi received the 24-bit/44.1k split-mono WAV files, approaching his mix as if it were a rock album. “Although it has many pop and Latin production sounds and elements,” Bozzi says, “I wanted to keep it powerful.” Mixes were played back using Pro Tools and converted to analog with a Lavry D/A, EQ’d on the studio’s custom-built analog board with custom-built limiter. The mixes were then converted back to digital using the Lavry A/D. “Everything is clocked externally using an Isocrone Trinity Atomic clock,” Bozzi adds.
