David Mitson mastered the soundtrack to Down to You, and Randy Gerston continued to remaster classic soundtracks for films such as The Dirty Dozen, Ryan's Daughter and Logan's Run...Producer Joe Chiccarelli has been busy, producing The Januaries and Juliet Venegas at CanAm (L.A.) with help from engineer Daniel Mendez and assistant Travis Smith. Northwest Stepping Stone (Seattle) had Peter Frampton and Nancy Wilson in, with producer Scott olson, to record cuts for a new Cameron Crowe film. Kurt Block mixed Nashville Pussy's new record....Seattle-based Music Works (formerly Xtreme) mobile recording facility drove up to Vancouver to record Kiss and their millennial performance at B.C. Place Arena. The band's longtime engineer Peter McCabe and Music Works chief engineer Steve Smith were behind the board for the live recording, which will be released on the upcoming PolyGram CD Kiss Alive IV...NYC band Blonde Redhead worked on their latest Touch and Go album with producer Guy Picciotto (of Fugazi) at Bear Creek (Woodinville, WA). Joe Hadlock produced demos for Trixie from Crystal Method...TikiTown (San Rafael, CA) producer Scott Matthews recently finished work with his new discovery, C. William Cole. Engineer Tom Lukens lent a hand...At Cottonwood Recording Studio (Tacoma, WA), producer Rob Jackson recently tracked songs for a Christian record by Tony Monero, whose life was the focus of the film Saturday Night Fever. Jackson also produced songs for Emperor P with mix engineer D.M.F. and engineer Scott Mills, and co-produced tunes for Skasmopolitan with the band and co-producer/engineer John Dammeier...

Southwest Still rolling along: The Reelsound (Buda, TX) 48-track mobile audio truck recently celebrated a 30th anniversary-and then went right back to work. The studio was brought in by Lickonavision of Austin, TX, to record the PBS special Don McLean, Starry, Starry Night, which included Garth Brooks and Nanci Griffith. Dave Hieronymus supervised the recording with Malcolm Harper behind the board and David Hough, Greg Klinginsmith and Gordon Garrison assisting. The truck was in Dallas to record the twice-Grammy-nominated Jaime y los Chamacos in concert for a live CD. Freddie Martinez Jr. produced, Harper engineered, and Klinginsmith and Garrison assisted. The truck also provided audio mixing and recording Susan Tedeschi and Charlie Daniels for the TV series Nascar Rocks at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, and Reelsound did the mixing for VH-1's recording of John Mellencamp at the Woodlands in Houston...

North Central Business at Airborne Audio Productions (Kansas City, Mo) has been taking flight. The 11-year-old facility recently added two new Steven Durr rooms. Sessions include Patrick Leonard, the Backstreet Boys and an upcoming Elton John soundtrack for DreamWorks...Not so dead at 609 Recording in Cleveland: Former MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer recently roared in to produce former Dead Boys guitarist Jimmy Zero's new band, Lesbianmaker. Studio owner Don Depew engineered...Jeff "Madjef" Taylor (Michael Jackson) was madly producing, engineering and mixing a new album by Kika for Universal Records Portugal. Most of the project was done on Pro Tools in his home studio in Brooklyn Park, MN. The mixing was completed at Master Mix Studios in Minneapolis...Producer/artist Dargi produced and engineered his band, Black on Black, with co-producer Gabriel Katona, engineer Mack and assistant engineer Ian Nevets at the Black Castle (Edina, MN)...

Southeast Who wants to be on a Kathy Lee Gifford record? Gifford recently jetted down to Seventeen Grand Recording (Nashville) after taping a LIVE! With Regis and Kathy Lee show to record with Dolly Parton in the Neve Room. Parton sang on "Circle Game," a Joni Mitchell song, and a ballad Gifford wrote. Pam Tillis did overdubs for her Arista CD with producer Paul Worley, engineer Mike Poole and assistant engineer Sandy Jenkins...Kim Richey tracked at Sound Kitchen (Franklin, TN) with producer/engineer David Thoener...At oasis Recording (Atlanta), chief sound designer Bob Gillespie recently did the 5.1 mix of Cumberland: Island In Time, a documentary on the history and preservation of the Georgia island, written, produced and directed by filmmaker William VanderKloot. It was the first project done on the facility's redesigned A production suite on the new Mackie digital 8-bus console and 5.1 surround sound system...Shane McAnally mixed tracks for a Curb release with producer Rich Herring and engineers Derek Bason and J.R. Rodriguez at Starstruck Studios in Nashville...At East Iris (Nashville), Abra Moore mixed her upcoming Arista CD with producer Jay Joyce and engineer Giles Reaves. Songwriter Darrel Brown tracked and mixed a self-produced project with engineer Chuck Turner...Karyadi Sutedja and Glen Matullo recorded a project with help from Jac Cain and Mickey Wad at Crossroads in Atlanta...Three projects mastered and replicated at Digital Domain (orlando, FL) recently won recognition: Perla Batalla's album Mestiza was named twice in's "Best of '99"; Gunn Madsen won a Parents' Choice Foundation Award for his kids album old Mr. Mackle Hackle; and Ray's Music Exchange's debut CD, Alivexchange, won Album of the Year at the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards ...Bold statements coming out of Emerald Sound Studios (Nashville). Northeast Plenty to see and hear at Sear Sound in NYC: Yoko ono worked on a new release in the studio's new Studio C. Son Sean Lennon and his girlfriend Yuka Honda of Cibo Matto also worked on the record as did guitarist Marc Ribot, drummer Joey Barron and engineer Tom Schick. Grateful, a new album for producer/composer John Bucchino, was also tracked and mixed at Sear and will include contributions by Liza Minnelli, Judy Collins, Art Garfunkel, and Patti Lupone. Artist/producer Bob James tracked with Fourplay with help from engineers Don Murray and Ken Freeman...Dan Gellert has been keeping busy at Avatar Studios (NYC): He recorded and mixed an acoustic version of "Mean to Me" by Tonic, who produced with assistant engineer Andrea Yankovsky. He also recorded orchestra and piano with producer Barry Eastmond for an upcoming Britney Spears album (with assistant Anthony Ruotolo) and tracked and mixed Sweet Honey in the Rock for a soundtrack album (with Yankovsky)...A variety of club and dance artists recently found their true tones at Trutone (Hackensack, NJ): Engineer Phil Austin mastered Junior Vasquez's remixes of Whitney Houston's "I Learned From the Best"; Linda Eder's reverse-psychology dance single, "Never Dance"; George Lamond's 12-inch single, "Me Niego a Perderte"; and Johnny Vicious' remix of "Al-NaaFyish (The Soul)-Y2K Mixes" by Hashim. Engineer Joe Yannece mastered Catapila's Tommy Boy maxi-single "Void (I Need You)" and Sugarbabies' Tommy Boy single "Encore (ooh ooh Yeah Yeah)" ...Singer/songwriter John Flynn stopped in at Indre Studio (Philadelphia) to demo new songs with engineer Matthew Milner. Flynn is known for wacky children's songs such as "Road Kill Cafe" and "A Manatee Sneezed on Me"...At the Music Lab (Hollis Hills, NY), Matt Piso and Vito DeLaura performed some remix alchemy on dance versions of M2M's "Don't Say You Love Me" and Anastasia's "I'm out of Love." Studio News Pacific Data Post recently opened for business in Santa Monica. Neil Feldman, president of the Dallas-based Video Post & Transfer and L.A. colorist Steve Behar teamed up to open the boutique high-tech facility, which will provide film to digital video transfer, special effects creation and editing...The Sound Kitchen (Franklin, TN) and Right Track Recording (NYC) both chose Martinsound's MultiMAX monitor controller recently, as did Southern Tracks (Atlanta), which augmented its SSL 4064 G-Plus with a controller in response to record companies' demands for 5.1 mixes...Bag End gear recently arrived at two Santa Monica, CA, studios: Todd-Ao Studios West acquired Bag End Loudspeaker Systems subwoofer systems, and 48 Windows installed Bag End MM-8 near-field monitors and INFRAsub-18 subwoofers...
