Mojave Audio and Royer Labs Shine at World Famous Wisseloord Studios

Presentation at The Netherlands’ premiere studio gives audio pros an up-close look

Hilversum, The Netherlands… As part of their pre Frankfurt Musik Messe activities, Mojave Audio and sibling company Royer Labs stopped by The Netherlands’ leading recording facility— Wisseloord Studios—to conduct a clinic for the area’s pro audio community. Located just 25 minutes from Amsterdam, Hilversum is the media capital of The Netherlands and Wisseloord Studios has a rich cultural and entertainment-related history. The recording studio was originally founded by entertainment conglomerate Phillips to enable their various artists to record in a state-of-the-art facility. Over the years, it has gained international appeal and has served artists such as Elton John, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Tina Turner, and U2 to name but a few.

Organized by Amptec, Mojave Audio’s distributor throughout Benelux (the Midwestern European region that constitutes Belgium, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg), the two companies conducted a presentation that showed the power and capabilities of Mojave’s condenser microphones and Royer Labs’ ribbon microphones in a world-class studio environment. Throughout the morning of April 13th, Mojave Audio’s Dusty Wakeman and Royer’s John Jennings conducted presentations for their respective companies. During the lunch break, the two miked up a local jazz ensemble by the name Coat of Many Colors while the audience moved into the control room to listen back on the studio’s stunning PMC studio reference monitors.

Dusty Wakeman, President of Mojave Audio, commented on his experience at Wisseloord Studios, “It was a personal thrill for me to present our microphones at the historic Wisseloord Studios. I have followed the 2012 renovation of the studio in the press and visiting has been on my bucket list ever since. Both the facility and the staff exceeded my expectations. It is truly a world-class operation. The artists and the crowd were terrific—very professional and knowledgeable. Many thanks to Bart Hilberink of Amptec, our distributor, for organizing such a great event.”

Amptec’s Bart Hilberink was equally enthusiastic about the event, “It was a real pleasure having Dusty and John over for their presentations. I had seen their demos once before while visiting AES New York, and we then decided we wanted to do an event like that locally. Due to the excellent performance of the band and Dusty’s incredible engineering experience, it was a very impressive demo. There was no doubt about the quality of the microphones. Since everything else at Wisseloord is also top-of-the-line, we could easily demonstrate the natural sound of ribbons and the quality of the Mojave microphones.”
