DIGIDESIGN STRIKE
From Digi’s Advanced Instrument Research group comes Strike, an RTAS virtual instrument for Pro Tools|HD, LE and Pro Tools M-Powered ($299). Users can adjust the virtual drummer’s playing intensity, complexity, timing, groove, dynamics and more, in real time. The instrument features five drum kits, each containing 12 drum sounds with 300 samples per instrument. There are 1,500 preset patterns, which can be customized and saved, or Strike can be used as a drum module by triggering it directly from Pro Tools. A built-in software mixer lets users add mic leakage and room sound, or alter sounds via a three-band EQ or two included insert effects per channel. NAMM booth #6606.

E-MU PLATINUM 88
E-mu’s Grand Piano Sound Library, the Platinum 88 ($149), offers Emulator X and Proteus X users more than 7GB of 24-bit grand piano samples. The set is based on samples from a Steinway Model L concert grand piano featuring 12 layers of samples for each of the piano’s 88 notes: five layers with the sustain pedal up, six with the sustain pedal down and a layer dedicated entirely to note-off sounds. If hard drive space is an issue, the set also includes 1GB and 200MB, 16-bit versions of the piano. NAMM booth #6940.

SYNTHOGY ITALIAN GRAND
The fourth version of the Ivory Synthogy Italian Grand Piano features recordings of a 10-foot Italian concert grand piano with 2,000 samples over 19 GB, recorded at the SUNY Purchase concert hall in New York. Samples feature 12 velocity layers as well as soft pedal samples (una corda) and release samples at multiple time and velocity levels. The Italian Grand Expansion Pack is offered as a separate add-on volume that requires the installation of Ivory 1.5, providing a new set of programs and key-sets that will appear within the Ivory user interface. It ships on DVD in AU, VST (Mac/PC) and RTAS (Mac/PC) formats. NAMM booth #6720.
