Anaheim, CA (January 28, 2019)—Every year, the MI field—and now increasingly the pro-audio industry—descends on the NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA. Days Two and Three were a heady mix of new gear introductions, presentations from top-shelf producers and engineers, and more. Here’s just some of what we saw while sprinting around the show floor!
Producer/engineer/author Sylvia Massy (Tool, RHCP, System of a Down, etc.) was on hand to share her insights and stories during a Q&A at Cordial Cables.
Shure retrofitted an Airstream trailer as a comfy, airy recording space that made use of its new Motiv line of mics and accessories for mobile content creators.
LD Systems USA showed its Maui P900 portable PAs, designed by the Porsche Design Studio.
It was a packed house at the Audio-Technica booth, where new instrument mic mount systems and ATH-M50 XBT wireless over-ear headphones with Bluetooth were the order of the day.
DirectOut Technologies was showing its Prodigy MultiFunction Audio Processor, which provides I/O, dual networked audio, DSP, sample rate conversion, multiple sync generation/handling/distribution and more in a 2U rack frame, supporting Dante, Ravenna and Waves SoundGrid.
Yamaha was showing its DZR-15D loudspeakers with Dante; the 2,000-watt powered PA speaker sports a 15″ LF driver, 2″ HF driver and a built-in Dante interface.
IK Multimedia unveiled its new high-res compact studio monitors, the iLoud MTM, marking a rare venture out of the ultra-compact products it is typically known for. Costing $700 a pair, they offer 40 Hz to 24 kHz frequency response, 100 W RMS total power per speaker and acoustic self-calibration with an included mic.
The RCF booth had lots of the loud stuff.
Clair Bros. was on-hand showing some of its latest installation-oriented offerings.
…And we close things out with the annual drum circle, which attracted hundreds of participants. See you next year, NAMM!
