UK SR companies Brittania Row and SSE each purchased new Midas Pro6 Systems at PLASA.London (September 17, 2008)–SSE and Britannia Row have each purchased six Midas Pro6 live audio systems. The announcement was made at last week’s PLASA. Although the convention marked the first public unveiling of the PRO6, reportedly more than 100 systems have already been ordered.
The PRO 6 purchases by Britannia Row and SSE weren’t too surprising; each company also owns two XL8 live performance systems, making them the UK’s only XL8 rental suppliers, together with EFX Audio in Scotland.
“We already have our XL8s lined up for a busy autumn,” said Britannia Row’s Mike Lowe. “Oasis are taking the first XL8 out for the autumn touring season for their UK arena tour, which runs from late September until early November. They have been using an XL8 in rehearsals since June. They are now on the first shows of their world tour in the US and Canada and have been getting great results with it. We used two Midas Pro6 prototypes–one at FOH and one on monitors–at the South West Four/Get Loaded weekend on Clapham Common, and now have three tours that are keen to take out our first production Pro6s, so watch out for further details very soon.”
SSE’s John Penn added, “Since the XL8 launch, Midas has been developing the software and improving the features in response to user requests. The unanimous message that SSE got back from every engineer that tried XL8 was how great it sounded. When we heard about the Pro6, it was clear that since it features the same software and build quality of XL8, but in a much more cost effective package, far more engineers could afford to spec and would be eager to do so. Accordingly, we decided to get right behind Midas and commit to it from the off. We’re now eagerly awaiting these additions to our digital console fleet so we can get on with training users and getting it on shows this autumn.”
