Following the release of the Alesis Ion synthesizer, Alesisintroduced the Micron virtual analog synthesizer, which boasts the samesound engine as the Ion in a compact three-octave keyboard. The Micronis compatible with Ion programs and holds more than 1,000 programs andmultitimbral setups.
The Micron offers continuously variable wave shapes, sync and FMsynthesis. Sixteen filter types are included, along with two LFOs withmultiple wave shapes and sample and hold. The Micron has 8-voicepolyphony with three oscillators per voice, and is 4-part multitimbral. The Micron also features a programmable step sequencer, arpeggiator, rhythm sequencer for drum kits and dynamic real-time phrasesequencer—all of which sync to MIDI clock. A powerful andintuitive modulation matrix is built in. Effects include a 40-bandvocoder that does not use up any polyphony, four drive effects andstereo bus effects, including reverb.
For assignable real-time control, the Micron has three knobs, twomodulation sliders and a pitch wheel. The knobs are 360-degreepotentiometers with 12-bit resolution, yielding 32x the resolution of atypical MIDI controller, yet still compatible with the latestsequencers via NRPMS (Non-Registered Parameter Numbers).
Lightweight and portable, the Micron keyboard contains 37 keys withvelocity and release velocity sensitivity. There are two analog outputsand 2two stereo analog inputs—all 1/4-inch balanced and using24-bit conversion. Also included are connections for expression pedal, sustain pedal and MIDI In/Out/Thru.
