Buddy Miller kindly sent us complete mic lists and a few other details for the album track he recorded in a backstage dressing room with Robert Plant, and the new album he produced and recorded a couple of months ago in a local church for Patty Griffin:
Backstage With Robert Plant
I used the M-Audio Profire 2626. Its mic pre’s sound wonderful. I think the sound of the track holds its own against the other tracks on the record.
I didn’t use any compressors while tracking.
Vocals and instruments were set up very close to each other with no isolation for amps or vocals. So there is lots of bleed.
Mics Used:
Robert’s vocal: Telefunken 251F
Buddy vocal: M-Audio Sputnik
Buddy guitar: Sony C37a
Stuart Duncan fiddle: M-Audio Pulsar II
Dennis Crouch bass: M-Audio Sputnik
Jay Bellerose drum/room mics: 2 Coles, 3 feet on each side of drums, Neumann CMV563 8 feet over drums.
Gurf Morlix’s lap steel amp was not miked but picked up great by all the mics in the room.
